Pinckney Island
One of our stops on the Carolina Coast was Pinckney Island, a wild bird refuge within a network of barrier islands outside of Charleston in Beaufort County. The only island open to people is Pinckney and there is a long trail that winds through the coastal marshland and forest. Mom and I had a lovely walk and saw lots of birds and 100s of tiny crabs. We had a nice picnic and enjoyed the gorgeous scenery.

Tombstone, AZ
[Tombstone, December 29th, 2010]
The second day of the trip, Reaux and I left Phoenix and headed on the 10 EAST. Our first stop was the legendary town of Tombstone, aka “the town too tough to die!,” also the site of the O.K. Corral gunfight.
It was very touristy, but there was definitely a lot of worthwhile places to check out. My favorite part was the Birdcage Theater, which functioned as the saloon, theater, gambling hall, and whorehouse all in one. Doc Holliday’s medical equipment was on display, along with the original grand piano, wallpaper, and gambling tables. The walls were littered with bullet holes. It was also amazing to stand on the stage and think about all the types of performers and entertainment that went on there.

After Tombstone, we drove out to the Oliver Lee State Park in New Mexico to set up camp. The area was strange to camp in because it is right next to Roswell, it is near the first Atomic bomb test site, and very close to the current missile testing range… the park was beautiful, nonetheless and camping was fun. xo c
