Pumpkin Carving
Since I wrapped up my stint at the folk school, I have been living in the guest house at Henn’s Nest just outside of Murphy, NC. Betsy Bailey Henn, the matriarch of the family, is a super-talented artist whose creativity knows no bounds. Her and her family owned and ran the movie theater in town (The Henn Theater) since the 30s. She now teaches art and co-runs a store-front gallery called the Artists Common Gallery.
Today, Betsy and I set up a table in the backyard and decided to attack a legion of pumpkins! This is documentary evidence of our creative endevours. Enjoy!

Craftnight Dance
I am calling a square dance at Akbar in Silverlake for CRAFTNIGHT tonight 9-ish! Also pumpkin carving [bring your own]… Be there and be square! and pumpkin-shaped… with a mushy seedy center…. That is good for roasting. YUM!
Craftnight rocks if you have never been. It’s good for your soul to go and zone out and do a craft assignment with a brewski and your pals.
JP, the craft captain, who runs craftnight also rocks. I could browse through her fantastic portfolio of design a loooong time. Which I kinda just did between the “rocks.” and the “I” of the previous two sentences. Yep, that tiny space in between those two sentences is really me being gone for at least an hour minutes of getting lost in amazing design… but you would never know that and that is the beauty of typing.
sigh. I love good design.
Gothtober, another JP masterminded project, is a website that acts as an advent calendar-esque countdown to Halloween. Each day in October is assigned to a different artist and when the day arrives, voilà! their project is released to the world through the gothtober portal. It really rad, fun way to get into the Halloweeny spirit. My favorite this year is Wig Out regular, Muffmaster Flash, with “Gold Lamé.” She’s on day 5. It’s just another day in my gold lamé…
